New Acquisition Gives Live Search Capability
San Francisco-Google and Yahoo are working on their projects such as indexing and making Flash sites available, but meanwhile Microsoft is pushing ahead with projects of its own.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday its purchase of Powerset, a San Francisco based natural language and search company.
According to officials at Microsoft, the company and its employees will remain much as they are but they will be integrated into the Microsoft Search Relevance team.
Powerset possesses an exclusive natural language processing technology that they purchased from Xerox in 2007.
This technology comes to Powerset from the Xerox Palo Alto Research and Development Center and is thought to be very innovative in many ways in how it deals with Internet search parameters.
This will allow Microsoft to have its own entrance into the Search engine world of the World Wide Web and the Internet at large.
The Live Search team at Microsoft says that the personnel and quality of the staff at Powerset is what influenced the purchase of the company, but also because Powerset and Microsoft share a vision to take Internet based searching to the next level.
Powerset is very pleased with the acquisition by Microsoft and sees it as a win win situation for both their companies.
